The Economics Committee this morning (Monday) approved the order to expand the powers of municipal inspectors, which aims to expand the enforcement powers towards users of bicycles and electric scooters.
According to the announcement issued on behalf of Transportation Minister Merav Michaeli and Minister of Internal Security Amar Bar-Lev, following the extension of the order, the municipal inspectors will be authorized to enforce additional offenses.
Now, inspectors will be able to impose penalties for not wearing a helmet;
Prohibition on riding electric vehicles under the age of 16 or without a training permit;
Prohibition of assembly;
Prohibition on the use of headphones or a mobile device when riding on the sidewalks of bicycle paths, pedestrian paths and crossings.
In addition, inspectors will be given the authority to enforce a non-compliance offense by cyclists with an auxiliary motor and electric scooter riders to a sign indicating riding in the opposite direction marked in the arrow, while riding a bicycle path.
Also, the powers of inspectors have been expanded so that they can enforce against motorcyclists on any path marked as intended for pedestrians and crossings, and not only on sidewalks or even on the lane marked as intended for bicycles as they are currently authorized.
The Minister of Transport and Road Safety, MK Merav Michaeli, responded: "Extending the order we approved today is an important step designed to ensure the safety and security of all road users and significantly reduce road accidents. Light tools have many advantages: Road congestion allows for greater connectivity between the various modes of transport and is convenient and available. "Carefully and while adhering to the safety rules, so that we can all reach our destination safely. A good and safe trip."
Homeland Security Minister Amar Bar-Lev added: "The extension of authority order is another step in our fight against road accidents. Accidents involving two-wheeled electric vehicles have become a leading scourge for casualties, and this is a situation we must not accept. Our commitment is to fight those who allow themselves to repay. "Law and endanger the environment, without realizing that two-wheeled power tools can be deadly if not used properly."
