While attacks on persons and property are down overall, domestic and sexual violence are on the rise. The ca

While the numbers don't look good compared to last year, they're quite supportive of law enforcement when compared to a post-Covid period.

“The evolution of crime figures should be put into perspective with the figures for the previous year, but above all with the figures recorded in 2019, the year considered as the reference year, due to the health crisis in 2020 and 2021 which made the findings atypical”, writes, in the preamble, the Paris police headquarters (PP), in a report sent to the press on Monday.

The PP, which welcomes that "the trajectory taken by Parisian crime during the first quarter of 2022 is on the rise compared to the same period in 2021, but is lower than 2019 on most indicators".

Concretely, acts of willful attacks on physical integrity increase by 17.9% between 2021 and 2022, but their level remains lower than that of 2019 (-7.4%).

According to the prefecture, while attendance in the capital "has returned to its habits", it counts 877 fewer victims in 2022 than in 2019.

In detail, two indicators at the heart of public debate are however on the rise: domestic violence and sexual violence.

They increase respectively by 45% and 25.2% between 2019 and 2022, and by 27.6% and 39.4% between 2021 and 2022. According to the PP report, this increase could be explained by "the release of the voice of victims” and the deployment of “systems intended to improve the care of victims”.

Burglaries returned to pre-health crisis level

On the side of property crimes, "the most important part of Parisian crime", there too, no increase compared to the reference year.

If they start to rise again in 2022 (+ 24.5% compared to 2021), they "do not reach the level of 2019 (-21.1%)".

The prefecture sees it as a return to “normal life” after the pandemic.

In three months, 48,844 incidents have been recorded this year, compared to nearly 62,000 over the same period in 2019. However, burglaries seem to have returned to their pre-health crisis level.

Pick-pocketing and roulette theft are down significantly compared to 2019.

Finally, the PP notes an increase in the number of drug law offenses (+ 37.2% compared to 2019 and + 21.5% compared to 2021).

Street sales climbed 14.9%.

The elucidation rate increases slightly by 7 points.
