Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that the Geneva Convention on Prisoners of War does not apply to the two American mercenaries who fought alongside the forces of the Kyiv regime and were captured by the Russian forces in Ukraine.
"These two mercenaries are not considered members of the Ukrainian army, and they were involved in illegal activities on the territory of Ukraine, shot our soldiers and threatened their lives, and they must be held accountable for their crimes because the Geneva Convention does not apply to them," Peskov said in an interview with the US television channel MSNBC. .
It is noteworthy that the American mercenaries, Alexander Drake, 39, and Andy Hoyn, 27, were captured during a fierce battle on the outskirts of the city of Kharkov in northeastern Ukraine.
