Syria's permanent representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh, affirmed that Western countries' persistence in the policies of economic terrorism and collective punishment, and the continuation of the Israeli occupation, the Turkish regime and terrorist organizations, their aggressive and destructive practices towards Syria impede its efforts to achieve stability.

Sabbagh indicated in a session of the Security Council today on the humanitarian issue in Syria that while the Syrian government continues to strengthen its efforts to achieve economic and social stability, improve the living conditions of the Syrians and facilitate the dignified, safe and voluntary return of the displaced and refugees, the practices of terrorism, aggression and destruction continue against it through the threats of the Turkish regime to launch new acts of aggression and aggression. The direct implementation of the Israeli occupation and the attacks launched by various terrorist organizations.

Sabbagh explained that the Israeli aggression that affected Damascus International Airport on the tenth of this June caused huge damage to the two landing strips, the technical equipment in it and the passenger hall, which led to its complete departure from service, which has serious political, humanitarian, military and economic repercussions that affect all Syrians and the countries of the region, including them. Those who depend on the support provided by the United Nations through its humanitarian flights from Damascus airport have been completely suspended.

Sabbagh pointed to what the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Syria confirmed in a statement issued on June 13 that the United Nations humanitarian flights had facilitated the movement of 2,143 humanitarian workers, transporting life-saving supplies and providing basic support and services to more than two million Syrians in the governorates of Aleppo, Hasaka, Deir Ezzor and Raqqa. Which stopped completely after the treacherous Israeli aggression on the civilian airport facility.

Sabbagh expressed his astonishment at the persistence of some Western countries covering up the Israeli aggression and its effects on humanitarian work, and not allowing the Security Council to condemn it as a flagrant violation of international law, international humanitarian law and the legally established protection of civil facilities, especially since it is not the first aggression against the airport or other commercial and civil facilities and ports. Air and sea, such as the Israeli aggression on the sea port of Latakia on December 17, 2021, which severely damaged materials and equipment belonging to the United Nations in Syria.

Sabbagh said: "In clear coordination with the Israeli aggression, which has endangered navigation and civilian air and sea transportation, as well as the lives and safety of innocent civilians, the threats and statements of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are escalating about his intention to launch military action on Syrian territory in the north with the aim of establishing what he calls a (safe zone). )”.

Sabbagh pointed out that these statements, which clearly express the aggressive policies of the Erdogan regime, come as a continuation of its other subversive practices to destabilize security and stability in Syria through its support for terrorism, population displacement and demographic change, in addition to the Turkification policy, which is considered ethnic cleansing in the geographical areas where its illegal forces and their agents are located. from terrorist organizations.

Sabbagh pointed out that terrorist organizations continue to commit their crimes against Syrians, the latest of which was a terrorist attack this morning on a civilian passenger bus on the Raqqa-Homs road, which led to the death of eleven soldiers and two civilians and the wounding of others, coinciding with reports that about 30 ISIS militants escaped yesterday from one Detention centers run by the separatist SDF militia and supervised by the US occupation forces.

Sabbagh said: "We are aware of the challenges facing the efforts of Under-Secretary-General Martin Griffiths and his team in cooperation with the Syrian government to provide support to the Syrians, due to the obstacles imposed by Western countries and donors who chose to politicize and employ humanitarian work against my country."

Sabbagh explained that the countries that directly and indirectly refused to implement resolution 2585, which was unanimously adopted by the Security Council a year ago, as a result of its members’ agreement to take serious and tangible steps to enhance humanitarian access from inside Syrian territory and increase early recovery projects for basic service sectors, are mobilizing empty media today, calling for its renewal on Although in recent months they have stood behind his failure.

Sabbagh stressed that Syria holds the United States, Britain and France fully responsible for the failure to implement the core pillars of Resolution 2585 and stresses the need not to be drawn into the misleading and deceitful campaigns promoted by those countries claiming that extending the resolution is an inevitable necessity, considering that putting pressure on humanitarian organizations in the United Nations to issue Data that she herself knows to be incorrect is surprising and unacceptable.

Sabbagh renewed his call for an immediate and unconditional cessation of the policies of economic terrorism and collective punishment represented by the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States of America and the European Union on the Syrian people, which represent a serious obstacle to any efforts to improve the humanitarian situation. And he puts himself in the position of hostility to this people.”

Sabbagh called on the Security Council and the Secretary-General to assume their responsibilities to stop the aggressive actions directed against Syria's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity and to end the illegal foreign military presence on its lands and the associated sponsorship of terrorist organizations and separatist militias and looting of national resources and the country's capabilities, stressing that it is unacceptable for the Security Council to remain silent In view of all these violations of the Charter of the United Nations.
