Strict security measures were taken for the G7 summit in Elmau.

Leaked documents from 2015 could still cause security concerns.

Elmau/Munich - The G7 summit in Elmau from June 26th to 28th is being eagerly awaited, particularly in view of the Ukraine conflict.

Heads of state and government of the seven largest industrial nations in the world will discuss economic, political and other issues at Schloss Elmau in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Only a few days before the starting signal, however, leaked documents that appeared on the Internet overshadowed the summit.

Because the documents are actually confidential papers on the security of the G7 summit in 2015, which was also held in Elmau Castle.

This could now raise serious concerns about the security of this year's summit, where Germany holds the G7 presidency.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: Security documents from 2015 leaked - several hundred pages

Security measures for the G7 summit in Elmau were taken very early on.

But the fact that confidential documents for the 2015 G7 summit have now ended up on the Internet should cast doubt on the comprehensive security precautions for the 2022 summit.

According to a report by

Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR)

, there are several hundred pages that are marked as classified information and are only intended for official use.

The documents appear to contain extremely sensitive security information, such as an operational order with detailed listings of police units and their digital radio channels, as well as cell phone numbers for police officers.

The leaked documents also contain procedures for arrests and for securing police vehicles as well as the police's de-escalation concept.

However, the information in the papers is not limited to this.

Even the travel routes planned for the heads of state and government at the time are included.

It is not yet clear who exactly published the documents and got their hands on them.

According to the

Tagesschau

, the documents were uploaded to a portal classified as left-wing extremist by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.

In addition, security circles confirmed to the

German Press Agency (dpa)

that these are authentic documents.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: Herrmann sees no threat despite leaked documents

For Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU), however, the leaked documents are no cause for concern.

Despite the development, the security concept for this year's G7 summit in Elmau does not want to be changed.

"According to the information available to me, the police see no problem," he told

BR

on the sidelines of an event in Erlangen.

Of course, "we are currently doing some things similar to what we did seven years ago at the forthcoming G7 summit," stressed Herrmann.

But many things are also done differently.

So you can not draw any "immediate conclusions about the actions of the police in the next few days" based on the documents.

There is therefore no critical situation for the forthcoming mission.

G7 summit 2022 in Elmau: Police evaluate leaked documents - Faeser rules out the risk

"At the moment, what is published is being evaluated by the police," the Bavarian Interior Minister also announced.

In view of the safety precautions, however, there will be no changes, Herrmann clarified.

According to the current status of the police, this is not necessary.

Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) was not particularly concerned about the documents appearing on the Internet.

According to her, the incident has no influence on the current operational planning.

The leaked documents "do not concern us so much," said Faeser, according to the

dpa

, during a visit by the emergency services in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

"That happened.

That's certainly not very good," said Faeser.

However, it is about operational documents from 2015. There is currently no specific risk situation.
