In Rome, a BMW driver caused a terror alarm in the Vatican.

A BMW driver has caused a terror alarm in the Vatican.

He broke through a security barrier and gave himself a chase through Rome.

A terror alarm was briefly raised in the Vatican on Sunday morning.

When a shot was fired, the Swiss Guard even closed an access gate to protect the Pope.

This was triggered by a 39-year-old BMW driver.

, the vehicle was noticed by a police patrol.

When the driver noticed the police officers, he apparently accelerated.

He didn't stop at a Carabinieri checkpoint near the Vatican, but drove away at full speed.
