The Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf, discussed with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus, Mahdi Sobhani, ways to enhance and expand the horizons of cooperation between the two friendly countries in the fields of environment and local administration.
Minister Makhlouf referred to the measures taken by the ministry in coordination with the concerned authorities to mitigate the negative effects of climate change, which calls for rapid action and concerted efforts locally, regionally and globally, indicating the importance of the existing coordination with Iran in this field after signing the memorandum of understanding with
Environmental Protection Organization in Iran to protect the environment, preserve nature and combat and reduce the phenomenon of sand and dust storms.
Makhlouf expressed the possibility of joint cooperation in the field of solid waste management, benefiting from the Iranian experience in the field of local administration and municipalities, and exchanging experiences between the two countries.
For his part, Sobhani expressed his country's desire to develop and advance bilateral cooperation relations, stressing that the issue of the environment is one of the important issues that must be worked on and developed between the two countries.
