The People's Assembly's Economic Affairs and Energy Committee discussed today the reality of the work of the Ministry of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection and its affiliates, in the presence of the Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection Amr Salem.
The chairman and members of the committee stressed the need to provide all facilities for farmers to extract the wheat crop from them, especially in the matter of transportation fees, tightening control over bakeries, increasing the quantities of flour distributed to them in a number of governorates, combating imbalances and corruption in them, securing a loaf of bread for citizens with the required quality and specifications, controlling markets and limiting high prices. Food and consumer items, their provision and price control in the Syrian trade halls.
The members demanded to work on amending the articles of Legislative Decree No. 8 of 2021 to emphasize violations according to the damage in addition to positive intervention by providing some basic materials, especially sugar and oil derivatives, at reduced prices and sufficient quantities for factories and laboratories to reduce product prices and to supply the directorates of consumer protection with cadres to ensure tighter supply control On the markets, indicating the need to work seriously to make a successful experience from the producer to the consumer to relieve the citizens.
In response to the questions and inquiries of the members of the committee, Minister Salem explained that the quantities of wheat delivered from farmers in all governorates are increasing on a daily basis and there is great cooperation from all concerned parties to receive wheat, and it is necessary to wait until the end of the delivery process to know the marketed quantity accurately.
Minister Salem indicated that work is currently underway to study Legislative Decree No. 8 to amend its articles in line with reality, indicating that a state of trust has been created with merchants and industrialists to provide data on the cost of materials and goods to be audited and thus set their prices in a real way.
