The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev today proposed holding a referendum on amending the constitution in the country.
Novosti news agency quoted Mirziyoyev as saying during his meeting today with members of the Constitution Amendment Committee: I believe that if we reform the constitution through a referendum for the opinion of our citizens and their support, this will be the will of our people, and that will be a real people's constitution.
It is reported that on December 8, 1992 the Constitution of Uzbekistan was adopted in a session of the Supreme Council of the Republic, and since then the Basic Law of the country has been amended 15 times.
