A traffic accident occurred in Yau Tong.

At about 4 pm today (20th), a medium-sized truck was driving uphill along Gaochao Road. When it passed about 10 meters from the Zhongdian substation, it was about to stop. Unexpectedly, the truck suddenly slipped, crossed the opposite lane and stopped. It crashed into the iron railings on the roadside and the hillside one after another, and then rushed down the hillside about 20 meters below, rolled over and turned over, lying between the hillside trees between Ko Chiu Road and Lei Yue Mun Road.

The police and firefighters were called to the scene to rescue them. Fortunately, the driver of the truck only suffered minor injuries from scratches on his hands and feet, and was able to climb out of the car on his own. However, a female Tang dog, who had been raised by the driver for many years, died.

In order to prevent the truck from falling off the Lei Yue Mun Road below the hillside, the police blocked a section of the footpath, and firefighters were on guard at the scene.

Sources at the scene said that the driver of the truck was suspected of causing the accident because he did not pull the handle properly.

The cause of the accident is yet to be investigated by the police. Later, the authorities will need to send a crane to the scene to tow the truck away.

Affected by the incident, the Transport Department announced at one point in the afternoon that the entire line of Ko Chiu Road between Lei Yue Mun Road (near St. Anton's College) and Pik Wan Road was closed, the affected bus routes had to be diverted, and the traffic on the site was heavy.

The road section was subsequently unblocked, and traffic gradually returned to normal.

The mid-size truck slammed down the hillside.
