Two people, a man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s, have been found dead in the Trevélez River, in the Alpujarra of Granada, at noon on Monday.

The two people practiced canyoning on Sunday in that watercourse.

At the end of the day and showing no signs of life, his relatives notified the Civil Guard of the disappearance.

The agents have started the search early this Monday and have found the lifeless bodies of the mountaineers at 11 in the morning.

The identity of the deceased, as well as the exact causes of death, have not been disclosed at the time of publication of this information.

The place where the two canyoneers have been found is, according to some sources, known as Puente Palo, on the southern slopes of the Sierra Nevada, an area with difficult access.

The orography has made the rescue difficult, which has lasted four hours and has required the intervention, in addition to troops on foot, of a helicopter from the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Service of the Civil Guard (Sereim) of Granada.

The Trevélez River is a very common environment for canyoning, although some of its sections are considered black spots due to the number of accidents that have occurred in the past.

June is a period in which the rivers that rise in the Sierra Nevada, as is the case of the Trevélez, carry a greater flow of water due to melting.

This year, in addition, this has been much faster and more abrupt than usual and the waters of those rivers have risen and stirred.

Almost three years ago, in a place near where the deceased appeared this Monday, a 43-year-old father and his 17-year-old son died. The young man lost control in the water for unknown reasons and his father jumped into the water to try to save him. , unsuccessfully.

Since that incident, the Andalusian Federation of Mountaineering explains on its website the dangers of this area and suggests some points that should be avoided.

At that time, according to this federation, there had been five registered deaths at the scene.
