Unidentified agents used the Strava fitness monitoring app to spy on Israeli military personnel, tracked their movements at secret bases across Israel, and apparently watched them while on official business trips around the world, the British Guardian newspaper reported today (Tuesday).

One of the features of the app, which is based on sharing activities, is Segments - Strava draws on the map the routes that each one performs, and each route can be manually divided into sections.

According to the Guardian, by creating fake segments inside military bases, agents were able to track the people who trained at the bases, even those whose account was set up using the tightest privacy characteristics.

For example, a user of the app was tracked at a secret base, which reportedly had connections to the Israeli nuclear program, and after his movements at other military bases and in a foreign country.

The follow-up was unveiled by FakeReporter, a collaborative and for-the-public research venture set up by researchers, network experts and fake information activists.

The company's CEO, her brother Schatz, told the Guardian: "We contacted the Israeli security forces as soon as we discovered the security breach.

After receiving permission to proceed, we contacted Strava and they set up a senior team to deal with the issue.

" The intelligence agencies and reserved bases associated with the nuclear program.

The forgery of the sections bypasses the privacy settings of the application. Runners.

"Take it very seriously"

Sartava said in a statement that "we take privacy issues very seriously. We have been updated by FakeReporter on the issue of the sections of specific private accounts and have taken the necessary steps to rectify the issue. We provide accessible information about how the information is shared in the app".

In 2018 a new feature of Strava advertised all running, swimming and cycling routes for the public and less public, such as the location of military bases in Helmand province in Afghanistan, and a swimming pool near a base of the Royal Air Force in the Falkland Islands.

The app even revealed a route in Area 51 in Nevada.
