On Saturday (June 18), an 18-year-old died after a swimming accident at Otto-Maigler-See.
Witnesses watched him sink in the lake.
Cologne – Tragic swimming accident at Otto-Maigler-See: As the police and public prosecutor's office in Cologne announced on Monday (June 20), an 18-year-old died there on Saturday (June 18).
On that day, the temperatures in NRW were around 35 degrees, so many people visited the lake in Hürth (Rhein-Erft district).
Around 3:30 p.m., several witnesses saw the 18-year-old sink in the water at the official lido and never reappear.
Called firefighters found the wanted man lifeless in the water about an hour later, reports 24RHEIN.

He was rescued, resuscitated and taken to a clinic, where he succumbed to his severe injuries on the same day despite intensive medical care.

A short time later, he was rescued from the water by rescue workers, and rescue service specialists brought the patient to a university clinic with resuscitation.
There he succumbed to his severe injuries in the afternoon despite intensive medical care.
Officials from the Rhein-Erft-Kreis criminal police immediately began investigating.
There is currently no evidence of third-party debt, so the investigators assume a tragic swimming accident.

Rescue divers were also involved in the rescue operation.
Police officers blocked the action area of the emergency services.
Many bathers left the lido at the beginning of the search measures without an official request.
Here, too, police officers provide support and ensure a coordinated and orderly departure.
Just last June, a 38-year-old drowned in a lake in Troisdorf.
