The incident takes place against the background of the deadlock in the round of talks in Vienna and against the background of the Iranian demand to remove the Revolutionary Guards from the list of terrorist organizations of the US State Department

An unusual incident between the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet and the Revolutionary Guards in the Strait of Hormuz. Two American vessels, the USS Sirocco patrol boat and the USNS Choctaw County cruise ship en route to the Strait of the Persian Gulf.

According to the announcement of the American Navy, one of the three boats of the Revolutionary Guards approached at a particularly high speed in the direction of the American boats but at the last minute changed direction.

In light of the fear that this was a hostile act, one boat sent warning lights.

The incident comes at a particularly tense moment between the West and Iran, against the backdrop of the deadlock in the eighth round of talks in Vienna over the renewal of the nuclear deal and the Iranian demand to add elements not directly related to the nuclear field, such as removing the Revolutionary Guards from the US State Department.

Tensions have escalated in recent days amid condemnation by the International Atomic Energy Agency in the face of Iran's attempts to evade responses regarding undeclared sites.

Joining this tension are reports in Iran of a series of mysterious assassinations or deaths by Revolutionary Guards officials, including Quds Force officials or Air Force and space scientists who may be involved in the missile field, as well as mysterious accidents at sites identified with the nuclear program.

Iran has blamed Israel, among other things, for these actions.

In addition, there have been other unverified reports of the assassination of an Iranian military figure - an engineer in the military industries - but it is not clear what their credibility is.
