Summer, sun, barbecue fun: What sounds relaxed can lead to a neighborhood dispute.
This is allowed when grilling.
Berlin/Düsseldorf - Having a quick barbecue after work?
Sounds tempting.
But if you want to fire up the grill on the balcony of your rented apartment or in the shared garden of the apartment building, you also have to be considerate of your neighbors.
A look at the respective rental agreement can help.
Because the landlord can restrict barbecuing here - or even ban it completely.
According to the Immobilienverband Deutschland
(
IVD
), anyone who still puts sausages and the like on the grill must
expect a warning or, in the worst case, even a termination of the lease.
Barbecuing in the summer: looking for a conversation with the neighbours
Of course, things are different in the garden of your own family home.
In principle, you can grill here as you wish.
However, here too, friction can quickly arise, especially if the neighbors feel bothered by smoke or any stench.
Neighborhood disputes are quickly inevitable, especially when dealing with very law-abiding fellow human beings.
In the worst case, such “harassment” can even result in a fine.
In order to avoid disputes between neighbors or even legal conflicts, the
Landesverband Haus & Grund Rheinland Westfalen
recommends trying to talk to your neighbors - before you fire up the grill.
"Then the neighbors can get ready for the barbecue evening and close their windows in good time," says Association President Konrad Adenauer.
In an ordinary terraced housing estate, in which mainly children live with families, such conflicts are rarely to be expected.
According to the IVD
, choosing an electric or gas grill instead of a charcoal grill can also
help to avoid conflicts.
In this way, smoke and odors can be reduced - and perhaps also the annoyance of the neighbors.
