Statement by Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid (Walla system)

Dozens of scenarios have taken place in the imaginations and minds of senior political figures in recent days, in an attempt to predict how the Bennett-Lapid government will come to an end. "Soon the real prime minister, who gave another motivational call to the crumbling coalition at the beginning of the Yesh Atid faction meeting yesterday, did not see it coming." Bennett implemented the directive and informed him that he was gone.

Once again the same old cliché was revealed, according to which in politics anything is possible.

Bennett's decision to disband the government and lead to early dispersal of the Knesset shocked and shocked the entire coalition and opposition.

The end of the government was already marked about two and a half months ago, with the retirement of Idit Silman, but until yesterday, Bennett, together with Lapid, made tremendous efforts to provide the joint start-up with more breathing space.

Even as his faction disbanded, his bureau disintegrated, and his associates abandoned and expressed distrust of him, he radiated optimism and poison, which at times even seemed detached from reality.

Yesterday the token fell: Bennett realized that the venture was collapsing, and a moment before - he made an exit.

Preferred to fall on his sword.

Bennett justified his decision to dissolve the Knesset for fear of the constitutional and security chaos that could result from the expiration of Judea and Samaria regulations, which the coalition has failed to approve for weeks; if the Knesset dissolves, regulations will be automatically extended. The child is also at a heavy personal cost. "The Judea and Samaria regulations were indeed in the background, but they were not the straw that broke the camel's back, but the understanding that the coalition had reached a point of no return and that the dissolution of the Knesset was inevitable.

After weeks of courtship, pressure and maintenance, one phone call with Nir Auerbach yesterday afternoon finally clarified the picture for Bennett: Auerbach has run out, and is set to be the 61st finger to join the opposition in overthrowing the government in the election.

So instead of letting Netanyahu schedule and deceive with Orbach and Idit Silman the celebrations of his fall, he preferred to fall on the sword and do it himself.

Bennett saw that he was about to get off the stage humiliated and rolled in tar and feathers, and decided to control the process and keep for himself some points of honor.

Going to the polls: Lapid and Bennett have agreed to dissolve the Knesset, Lapid will take over as prime minister

Received a built-in advantage over his opponents in the bloc.

Bennett's decision to hand over the rotation to Torch, and to avoid the required mud battles over who will head the transitional government, also refuted the scenarios.

Exactly one year after Lapid turned Bennett into the 13th prime minister of the State of Israel, he repays him in return, making him the 14th Israeli to sit in the honorable chair.

Exactly a decade after entering politics together, the Brotherhood has won the mocking sketches in a great country and brought them both to the coveted destination.

True, Bennett is currently the prime minister with the shortest term in history, and Lapid could easily inherit the title immediately after him, if another government is formed immediately after the election.

And yet, as Ofira Asaig puts it, his own: More than a thousand politicians have served in the Knesset since the establishment of the state, only when few of them became prime ministers.

Even before the history books are written, Bennett's membership demonstration has an immediate bonus: it will put Lapid in the prime minister's office for the entire election campaign, with a built-in advantage over all his center-left rivals in the brutal bloc within the blocs.

And not just a campaign, but one with a presidential visit.

Lapid will be the one to host President Biden next month, and all honors for the red carpet will be well photographed for election videos.

This is bad news for Bnei Gantz and Merav Michaeli, but not bad at all for Netanyahu and the ultra-Orthodox, since hatred of Lapid is a successful catalyst for motivating voters on the right.

For Gideon Saar, too, this is good news - Bennett's decision to transfer Lapid's prime minister puts him at a weak starting point for any negotiations on a future connection.

With a crumbling faction and no asset title, Levant will have a hard time presenting a case on the question of primacy.

A winner came out again.

Netanyahu (Photo: Flash 90, Yonatan Zindel)

Lapid is now trying to expedite the dissolution of the Knesset as much as possible in order to block the possibility of an alternative government headed by someone else receiving the number 14. Past experience shows that until the Knesset dissolves in the second and third readings, everything can still be reversed - code name: Mofaz 2012. Sides of the house, there is no chance for another government to stop the clock at the last minute.

Quite a few examined and examined this possibility length and breadth, led by Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked together with Auerbach and Torah Judaism chairman Moshe Gafni, but they all came to the same conclusion - Saar did not sit with Netanyahu, and there is no way to prevent elections. And yesterday, with the outbursts of announcements, no one addressed the outcry with an excited public call, but everyone stepped up the gear for the primaries.

Bennett and Lapid's demonstration of friendship and love in front of the cameras was authentic but at the same time meant to obscure the traces of failure, and the excitement from the intended prime minister captured much of the attention.

As usual, the big winner is Netanyahu, who within a year managed to collapse the alternative that tried to replace him.

He confronted her with a rigid and cruel opposition, which had eroded the coalition from both ends, the right and the Arab, and spared no means to undermine and discredit it.

Bennett, Lapid and Mansour Abbas tried very hard to make it work, but were unable to neutralize the mines he had planted on the side of the road.

Now, they will star together in the next Likud election campaign as a symbol of failure, and with Lapid as prime minister - Netanyahu will also have a serious political opponent for the "us or them" campaign.
