Baden-Württemberg and other states are urging the federal government to create the conditions for stricter corona measures.

Stuttgart – The corona virus in Baden-Württemberg is increasing again and concerns about mass infections are also increasing.

The state government is closely monitoring the development of the omicron variant BA.5, which is currently spreading rapidly in Portugal, among other places, so that appropriate measures can be taken in good time.

Under no circumstances do the federal and state governments want to be caught unprepared in a corona wave.

The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Health is therefore preparing in advance should the case occur in autumn.

The fact that the number of infections is already increasing sharply in some cases unsettles some federal states.

Among other things, Baden-Württemberg is also increasing the pressure on the federal government to take stricter corona measures, as BW24 reports.

Access and contact restrictions: Baden-Württemberg wants to be able to implement corona measures

In addition to Baden-Württemberg, other southern states and North Rhine-Westphalia are also demanding that they be able to prescribe stricter corona measures again.

So far, only the mask requirement in local public transport has continued to be pursued.

Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia are now pushing for the traffic light coalition to create the legal prerequisites for stricter protective measures.

In their proposal to the government, the countries demand that the legal basis for the implementation of mask requirements indoors, 3G/2G access rules, testing requirements, person limits and contact restrictions be created.

The traffic light must submit an amendment to the Infection Protection Act before the summer break, according to a draft resolution.

In addition, the four federal states insist that they be included in the deliberation of the law, reports the

.

The effectiveness of some corona measures will first be checked by experts

Before the traffic light coalition meets the demands from Baden-Württemberg and the other federal states, it will certainly first wait for the effectiveness of the corona measures to be checked.

An expert panel is currently preparing a report that is intended to provide comprehensive evidence of which measures were effective and which caused more harm than good.

However, there was excitement in this regard in advance, because Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) made it clear in a podcast that he did not think much of the results.

He even badmouthed the Corona testimony in advance.

The report will be published on June 30, 2022. The application from the four countries makes it clear once again what they want in addition to the stricter measures to combat the corona wave in autumn.

For example, it should also be clarified what happens with a fourth corona vaccination, how vaccination should generally be carried out in autumn and winter and whether the corona test regulation will be extended.

"We will be much better prepared for the winter than some people now suspect," Lauterbach assured in this regard in the
