In the USA, the corona vaccination campaign for children between six months and five years can start.

This Tuesday, President Joe Biden and his wife Jill want to visit a clinic in Washington DC that offers vaccinations for the little ones.

This is reported by the broadcaster CNN, referring to information from the White House.

With his visit, Biden wants to draw attention to the new recommendation for vaccines for children under the age of five.

After an advisory committee of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the health authority CDC also spoke out in favor of the use of coronavirus vaccines in children six months and older.

Both the vaccine from the manufacturers Biontech and Pfizer and the preparation from Moderna can therefore be used for around 18 million small children.

Million doses of vaccine ordered

US President Joe Biden called the decision a "huge step forward in our country's fight against the virus".

This is a day of relief for parents.

The vaccines are safe and very effective, giving parents peace of mind that their child is protected against the most severe cases of Covid-19.

The US government had already ordered millions of vaccine doses for the under-fives before the authorities' decision.

However, it is unclear how high the demand for the spade will be.

A recent survey found that only 18 percent of eligible parents plan to vaccinate their children once the funds become available.

Many intend to wait and see.

There is currently no corona vaccine approved for babies and small children in the EU.

The European Medicines Agency Ema in Amsterdam is currently examining whether the vaccine from the manufacturer Moderna can also be approved for children under the age of six.

Such a test has not yet started for the vaccine from the manufacturers Biontech and Pfizer.

The Standing Vaccination Commission in Germany has so far recommended corona vaccination for children from the age of five.
