Cow attack in Tyrol: German vacationer injured

A cow attacked and injured a German holidaymaker in Tyrol (Austria).

A rescue helicopter had to rescue the woman from a ditch.

Mieders – The 64-year-old vacationer was traveling with her husband on a forest path in Mieder near Innsbruck.

There, around 11 a.m. on Monday (June 20), the two met a herd of cows with several young cows and at least two mother cows, according to the Austrian police.

Although the 64-year-old and her husband tried to avoid the cows and calves as far as possible, an animal suddenly attacked.

Cow attacks German vacationer in Tyrol

A mother cow jumped at the vacationer from behind, the police said.

The woman fell into a ditch, where the cow is said to have climbed on her.

After the cow attack, a rescue helicopter had to rescue the 64-year-old from North Rhine-Westphalia with a rope and fly her to the Innsbruck clinic.

The German suffered bruises and hematomas in the incident, but was able to leave the clinic on the same day, according to the police.

Conflicts with cows in the Alps are not uncommon
