Daraa farmers began reaping the tomato crop, for which the province is famous, amid optimism for a bountiful harvest and a production of up to 362.5 tons.

The head of the Plant Production Department in the Daraa Agriculture Directorate, Eng. Wael Al-Ahmad, told SANA reporter today that the planned area for planting the tomato crop during the current season is 2052 hectares, and the cultivated area is 3020 hectares, and the yield per hectare is about 120 tons, indicating that Daraa Governorate is the first in Syria. In the cultivation and production of exposed tomatoes with its summer and condensation loops.

Al-Ahmad explained that the Directorate of Agriculture, in cooperation with the sub-committee of fuels in Daraa, provides farmers with the fuel needed for planting operations according to the available quantities, indicating that the directorate has a plan to plant about 761 hectares of intensified tomatoes, where its production is marketed at the beginning of August of each year, and the productivity of one hectare reaches about 70 tons.

In Al-Hasakah Governorate, the Directorate of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in the governorate estimated the quantities produced of tomatoes for the current summer season at about 12,619 tons distributed in various areas of agricultural stability.

The head of the Department of Plant Production in the Directorate of Agriculture, Engineer Jalal Bilal, said in a statement to SANA reporter that the tomato crop is second in terms of production quantities after the red and yellow watermelon, as farmers accept to plant it with the rest of the summer vegetable varieties in various regions of the governorate, especially in the countryside of Hasaka and Qamishli Amuda and Ad-Darbasiyah, where the production is marketed in the local markets, which contributes to the availability of the material and the stability of its prices.

Al-Hasakah governorate produces summer tomatoes only, while tomatoes grown in greenhouses in winter are supplied from other Syrian governorates.
