The police command staff at the 2022 G7 summit in Elmau will monitor all events via video screen.

In addition, the Olympic Ice Stadium in Garmisch-Partenkirchen became the command center.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen – The hustle and bustle is almost silent.

Hundreds of police officers from all over Bavaria work in the ice rink, which is used by the curlers in winter.

But the ice sports winter in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is long over.

The hall was already renovated in mid-February.

"Now it's the place where decisions have to be made," says Werner Sika, Head of Management.

As early as November 2021, when it became known that the G7 summit would take place again in 2022 at Schloss Elmau, Sika and his colleagues went on a search.

"In the beginning, people still skated here," he remembers.

It should be August before ice cream is prepared again in the SC Riessersee hall.

In the main hall there are numerous individual offices in trade fair style.

There is a hustle and bustle everywhere.

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) also got an idea of the G7 command center yesterday.

During a visit by the emergency services in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, she commented on the leaked documents about the security measures at the G7 summit in Elmau seven years ago.

"That happened.

That is certainly not very good. ”But the papers are about deployment documents from 2015.

According to Faeser, there is currently no specific risk situation.

“But of course we see that activities are increasing in terms of clicking on websites for the G7 summit.” Activists from the left-wing extremist scene are expected, but also from the Corona protests or in connection with the war in Ukraine.

A total of around 18,000 police officers will be on duty for the G7 summit.

These activities on the Internet are also received by the police command center.

On the video screen, which was assembled from 46 individual televisions, there are various subject areas or a super long shot.

According to the traffic light principle, the incidents are accompanied by information fields in red, orange and green.

Depending on the level of danger, drones can rise and send new images to the ice center.

That way, the bear sighted near Schloss Elmau could also make it onto the screen if spotted by officers patrolling the fence around the venue.

"But there is no connection to animal cameras," remarked Werner Sika with a smile.

Police officers at the G7 summit in Elmau must not lose any time in the event of danger - "top priority"

But the landing of the statesmen can also be followed on the screen, as well as pictures of the demonstrations in Munich and in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the planned star march to Elmau Castle.

All of this falls under the term “tactical television” at the summit police.

Otherwise, there is also public television and live streaming.

From the ice sports center, the officials have a connection to all branch offices, such as the border posts in Griessen and Scharnitz, but also to Oberau, where a huge police force monitors the change of train passengers to buses or the rail replacement service in the direction of Mittenwald.

In general, management does not want to lose any time when danger is imminent.

"Protecting the G7 summit is a top priority for our security authorities," said the minister.
