New York (CNN Business) -

A daughter of Elon Musk has petitioned a California court to recognize her new name and gender, saying she no longer wishes to have a relationship with her billionaire father "in any way."

The petition was filed by Xavier Alexander Musk, who turned 18 this year and filed the petition shortly afterward in a Los Angeles County court.

She requests that her name be changed to Vivian Jenna Wilson.

Wilson is the surname of her mother, Justine, Musk's ex-wife and mother of five of her seven children.

Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is the world's richest person with an estimated net worth of $214 billion.

Criticism of Elon Musk

Musk has been criticized for some of his statements on Twitter about gender identity issues.

For example, in December 2020 he published a tweet ––which he later deleted–– in reference to gender pronouns that said "when you put him/her in your biography", next to a drawing of an 18th-century soldier rubbing his face in blood in front of a pile of corpses and wearing a hat that said "I love to oppress."

In response to criticism for such content, Musk wrote on Twitter: "I'm absolutely supportive of trans, but all these pronouns are an aesthetic nightmare."

He also pointed to Tesla getting a 100% rating from the Human Rights Campaign as one of the "best places to work for LGBTQ+ equality."

Tesla still retains that 100% score in the 2022 rankings.

Musk has also said on Twitter that he is leaning toward supporting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in the 2024 presidential election. DeSantis recently pushed for and signed legislation—known to critics as the "Don't Say Gay" law ( "Don't say gay," in Spanish)–– to limit discussions of homosexuality and transgender issues in the state's public schools.

News of Xavier Musk's request broke over the weekend on social media and in stories on celebrity news site The Blast, as well as in

the Los Angeles Times

on Monday.

The case has a hearing scheduled for this Friday.

Earlier on Sunday, Musk tweeted congratulations on Father's Day, followed by another tweet saying "I love all my children so much."

CNN Business was unable to reach Xavier Musk for comment and there was no comment from her in other reports on the request.
