For the third day in a row, the campaign to detect cancer continues at Tishreen University Hospital in Lattakia, amid a remarkable turnout from citizens for the various tests included in the campaign.
In an interview with Yasmine Shaheen, supervisor of the Syrian Youth Council, she explained to SANA reporter that there is a response to the early detection campaign, which indicates citizens’ awareness of the importance of conducting the necessary tests. It is rare, but it exists, and this shows the feasibility of the campaign in highlighting the importance of early detection.”
Regarding the progress of the tests, Shaheen says that the medical team working in the laboratory is working meticulously, indicating that the process of early detection of prostate cancer is done by drawing blood and the process takes a few minutes, while the Pap smear test needs to prepare the patient before and after the test and takes five minutes. As for the mammogram, the device works from Eight in the morning until three in the afternoon, and the tests are conducted in four positions, then the device is rested a little, confirming that there is no pain during the tests at all, encouraging everyone to come and conduct the tests, and that any person suspected of being infected according to the test will be contacted within a maximum period of 15 days.
Dima Alia, a volunteer at the Syrian Trust for Development, confirmed that the turnout is good and the percentage of males is more, and there is some hesitation among women, pointing out the importance of early detection of breast cancer that is widespread and cervical cancer can not be detected before infection except through early detection in addition to prostate cancer in men.
Omaima Kitawi, a volunteer in the Youth Council, says: A good number has progressed during the first three days, which indicates a growing awareness of the importance of early screening, hoping that the turnout will continue and increase in the coming days.
Teacher Abdullah Mahmoud Al-Rakan, who read about the campaign for early detection of prostate cancer while browsing social networking sites, decided to come to check on his health, advising every citizen to take the initiative to conduct these free examinations.
Arwa Hamdi adds: I heard about the campaign through co-workers in the construction institution branch, so I decided to come for a cervical examination, and advise all women to come, especially with the facilities and organization provided by the medical staff.
