Deputy Head of the Civil Military Administration of the Kherson region Kirill Strymosov announced that a public referendum on the accession of Kherson to Russia is planned this year.
"The referendum will take place this year and it is planned to be held next fall," Strimosov said in an interview with Russia's RIA Novosti news agency today.
He explained that the organizational matters of the referendum are being resolved and that after the referendum, Kherson will become an administrative unit with full rights within Russia.
During the special military operation in Ukraine, the Russian forces took control of the Kherson region and part of the Zaporozhye region near the Sea of Azov in southern Ukraine and expelled the Nazi extremists from it. In these two regions, civilian military administrations were formed, the use of the Russian ruble began, broadcasts of Russian television and radio channels, and the two regions announced their intention to join the Russia.
