The Jabal al-Sheikh region produces popular varieties of peas in the market in terms of their quality, sweet taste and light green color. They are planted late and harvest begins at the end of May and continues until the end of June due to the coldness of the region. Expectations indicate a production of about 300 tons within the cultivated areas in the region.
The harvesting of the crop is of great importance to the people, given that there are many life and livelihood issues that are postponed until the value of the crop is collected, according to what a number of farmers in the village of Darbul in Jabal al-Sheikh confirmed to the SANA reporter.
Farmer Mohamed Saadat, who used to share harvesting, packaging and sorting operations with his family, said that following him to harvest his crop contributed to a good season, pointing out that the peas in Drbul are distinguished by their sweet taste, color and freshness because they are watered with clean water through sprinklers and harvested late because the weather is cold and their prices are more expensive than in any region due to its quality.
On her part, Fatima Al-Asrawi, as she continues to harvest it with a group of women, indicated that she is waiting for the pea crop, as it is one of the main crops that the people depend on for their livelihood, despite the difficulty of obtaining agricultural requirements and marketing the product, while the farmer Ghazi Saleh explained that peas are one of the most seasons that needs to be monitored. Paying attention, spraying and watering to ensure a good crop, hoping to provide fertilizers and diesel for farmers to secure the necessary irrigation water for them.
Jamal Muhammad Al-Asrawi, head of the agricultural association in the village of Derbel, said: The quantities of production of peas in Drbel this season are good, pointing out that the total cultivated area reached 200 dunams, and the production of one dunam reaches more than one ton and 400 kilograms.
Al-Asrawi explained that the high prices of fertilizers, pesticides and diesel negatively affected the quantities of production and the cultivated area, pointing out that the quantities of diesel that were distributed did not include vegetable farmers due to the lack of sufficient quantities.
