Munich has one less gourmet restaurant: the situation in gastronomy has never been as tense as it has been in recent weeks.

Munich - Just one day before the gastronomic guide Gault Millau publishes its restaurant ratings on June 20th, it is announced that Munich has one less gourmet restaurant.

At least over the summer.

The Schwarzreiter restaurant on Maximilianstrasse is now closing.

Gourmets can only reserve tables again after the almost three-month summer break.

The reason: lack of staff.

Otherwise, the hotel business in the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Munich could not be maintained, as they say.

However, an official statement from the hotel management could not be obtained yesterday.

Even before the pandemic, the Schwarzreiter team had treated themselves to a creative break of several weeks over the summer.

However, the restaurant was not closed because of this.

At a time when there were once many visitors from the Gulf States on the Isar, the exquisite restaurant was transformed into an Arabic restaurant.

Gastro crisis in Munich: "It's really dramatic"

But Arabic weeks in the Schwarzreiter are currently not planned.

The situation in gastronomy has never been as tense as it has been in these weeks.

Only recently, Dehoga President Angela Inselkammer complained: "Due to the lack of staff, the industry is in an unprecedented crisis." The companies could no longer find any employees.

The result: the forces that are still on duty are extremely stressed.

According to the Bavarian Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga), there are currently around ten percent fewer workers in the catering industry in Bavaria than before Corona.

If countermeasures are not taken soon, “then we will lose more companies than we did during the Corona period.

And that's really dramatic," emphasizes the head of the association.

The gastro crisis: Not only the Schwarzreiter is reducing its opening hours.

For example, Ali Güngörmüs eliminated the lunch menu in his Pageou restaurant, which was just as popular with guests at the nearby Hotel Bayerischer Hof as with people who work in downtown Munich.

Now the well-known star chef only serves his dishes from Tuesday to Saturday evenings.
