Doesn't invite you to linger: the bottom of the lake is overgrown with algae, along with rubbish that has been thrown away carelessly.

The community has it cleaned every two years, but "that's not enough," says press spokeswoman Ute Dechent.

According to the SPD in Haar, the Jagdfeldsee is “neglected and unkempt”.

She now wants to make the waters attractive again.

Haar – Despite the most beautiful sunshine and warm temperatures, it is quiet this afternoon at the Jagdfeldsee in Haar.

Sure, it's the weekend and the students from the Ernst-Mach-Gymnasium, who are spending their break on the boardwalk, are missing.

But there is also no sign of the children who live in the surrounding houses and who are also free.

Hardly anyone sits on the wide border or uses the shady benches around the lake, although since the construction of the Jagdfeld settlement in the 1970s it has been used as a small local recreation area in the middle of the high-rise buildings.

And there is a reason for this sadness: the lake is "neglected and neglected".

At least that's what the SPD calls him and calls for quick care measures.

And indeed: the only visitors to the lake that day are a couple of ducks, who are bobbing about on the murky broth, they are chasing small fish through the water, the bottom is green with algae, here and there an ice paper or a cigarette pack lies on the lake bottom.

The fact that small twigs and leaves fall from the surrounding trees doesn't matter that much, that's nature.

But somehow luck is not kind to the lake, there were and are always improvements.

Ducks kill green

In 2008 it was renovated for 300,000 euros, drainage shafts were renewed, sludge traps were installed and damaged joints were replaced.

The red reinforced concrete sculpture "Concrete Voyage", better known as the "red slab" by the sculptor Susanne Pittroff, didn't work right away either. The epoxy resin layer blew blisters due to the weather and had to be sanded off and rebuilt.

Just three years later, in 2011, the lake leaked again, with leaking joints and poor connection points to the concrete bridge being the problem.

In order to prevent the filling height required for the water quality from dropping, large quantities of groundwater had to be replenished.

After vigorous intervention by the owners of the red skyscraper, the willow island was removed and replaced by a row of trees.

From the very beginning, however, the lake also had its inhabitants, the ducks.

They were the reason for numerous fire brigade operations, which ended many a trip by mother ducks with their waddling offspring on the streets of Haar.

It sounds cute, but the feathered inhabitants put an end to the plant trough greening.

The brooding ducks fill their bellies there and don't leave a blade of greenery.

Their legacies also end up in the lake – to the detriment of the water quality.

But the lake also had nice days, for example when a nine-meter-high lighthouse made of scaffolding parts and 60 meters of wooden walkways were built on the lake during the Zamma Festival 2017.

A building that should “overcome borders, promote cooperation and create encounters” was the motto of the project at the time.

"Attractive center and recreation area"

Currently, however, the lake does not invite you to relax.

Green algae and rubbish on the ground, overgrown plant troughs, the formerly installed water fountains have long since stopped spewing.

The SPD now wants an “attractive center and recreation area in the Jagdfeld settlement” and formulated a corresponding application in the municipal council.

Instead of fountains, the water could also bubble up like a spring function.

This is not only attractive, but also contributes to improving the oxygen content of the water.

It should also be examined from a legal point of view whether fountains with a different angle and intensity and in hourly operation could also take into account the complaints of residents about loud water noise.

There is no recognizable concept for the plant troughs, if not planting flowers, perennials and grasses could be a possibility.

For several years, the municipal administration, i.e. the building yard, has been taking care of the lake, every two years it is completely cleaned and the water is replaced, explains city hall spokeswoman Ute Dechent on request.

But: "That's not enough." That's why you want to carry out a thorough cleaning once a year in the future.

"In the next few weeks, the time has come," the company has already been commissioned.

However, one is powerless against the passers-by who feed the ducks despite the prohibition signs.

Dechent himself walks past the lake every day and sees an upgrade as positive.

It is now up to the municipal council to decide how to deal with the SPD application.
