CDU and Greens in Schleswig-Holstein have concluded their coalition negotiations.

"We're through with the negotiations," said Prime Minister Daniel Günther (CDU) on Tuesday evening after a top-level meeting.

All open questions have been clarified.

According to information from the German Press Agency, one of the open questions until the end was when certain climate protection goals should be achieved.

There were also long unresolved issues with regard to the expansion of wind energy and transport and agricultural policy.

"We have a good result," said Finance Minister Monika Heinold from the Greens.

For details, the CDU and Greens referred to the presentation of the coalition agreement planned for Wednesday afternoon.

After the coalition agreement has been signed, both state party conferences must make the final decisions on Monday.

They come together in Neumünster for this purpose.

Günther's re-election in the state parliament is planned for Wednesday next week, after which he wants to appoint the members of his new cabinet.

His government statement on the political goals of the new coalition government is scheduled for the following day.

Jamaican coalition relaunch failed

The approval of the party conferences is just as certain as the election of Günther.

The CDU and the Greens together have 48 of the 69 mandates in the state parliament.

They have formed a government in Kiel together with the FDP since the previous state election in 2017.

A new edition of the Jamaica coalition originally intended by the CDU failed in the exploratory phase due to resistance from the Greens.

The Christian Democrats led by Prime Minister Günther won the May 8 election by a clear margin with 43.3 percent.

With 18.3 percent, the Greens became the second strongest force ahead of the SPD.
