At 10:35 p.m., the driver was still not rescued from the car as seen at the scene. He had no response at all. After the firefighters pried open the left front door, they then pulled the steel cables from the front and rear of the private car, ready to pull the car away to save people. .
At 11:15 p.m., the driver was rescued, but had no breathing or pulse. He was taken to Yan Chai Hospital by ambulance, but was eventually confirmed dead.

When it approached the entrance of the pipeline, it suddenly hit a stone ridge in the road, and then the whole car bounced and then crossed the road.
The Transport Department said that due to vehicle fire, some traffic lanes near the tunnel entrance of Tai Lam Tunnel (towards Yuen Long) have been closed.
Motorists are only allowed to use the remaining lanes.
