Teachers fear: "The public is losing interest in our struggle" Israel today

2022-06-21T03:59:13.708Z

The teachers 'union announced: Even today, school will begin at 10:00 - but the teaching staff is already doubtful: "The disruptions are setting up the parents on us" • The parents' leadership attacks: "No one cares about the children"

The teachers' union announced last night that the sanctions in the educational institutions under its responsibility will continue, for the third day in a row, and classes will begin today at 10:00 - but as time goes on and the sanctions continue, feelings grow among kindergarteners and teachers that the parents support their struggle less.

In its announcement, it was stated that the Histadrut will continue to impose sanctions on kindergartens, elementary schools and studios "until a concrete proposal from the Ministry of Finance is made."

Yaffa Ben-David, Secretary General of the Teachers' Union, said that "this is an emergency and a tangible danger to the future of the State of Israel, only a wage agreement will prevent the abandonment that leads to the collapse of the education system.

"I call on the Minister of Finance, Avigdor Lieberman, to come in person and sit down with the Minister of Education, the director general of the ministry, the person in charge of salaries and with me - tomorrow (Wednesday), and not wait until Sunday. We are ready to sit down until white smoke comes out."

But in various forums of teaching staff, and also in conversations with them, there is now talk of fear of erosion in the much support they received at the beginning of the struggle, including the great demonstration in Tel Aviv.

"In my opinion, these disruptions do not contribute anything other than that they establish the parents on us," says an elementary school teacher.

She said, "Obviously I want wages to go up, and there are ways to fight, but a two-hour break in the morning brings nothing but parent designers. I and many others like me feel the public is losing interest in the fight, and support for us is no longer so great. They hurt everyone and they will not produce anything. "

Parental distress

Even in network groups with tens of thousands of teaching staff members, criticism of the strike was heard, with some of the criticism coming from organizations parallel to the teachers' union.

Teacher Tal Luria, author of the blog "Teacher's Diary" and founder of the "Teachers Leading Change" group, claims that the Histadrut, ignoring the plight of parents, puts teachers on the side in the struggle against parents. This strike hurts teachers and students, "Education. The power games of the teachers' union cause a delay, and any delay hurts the teachers."

"The first to be hit"

There are, of course, parents who support the teachers 'strike, but the national parents' leadership attacked the teachers 'union: "We can not agree to the continued harm to Israeli children, even if we support raising teachers' salaries. "M do not care about them."
