The amount determined by Judge Moshe Sobel is the highest. The court ruled in one lawsuit against the Palestinian Authority.

The Jerusalem District Court today (Tuesday) ordered the Palestinian Authority to pay NIS 130 million to 34 families whose relatives were killed in terrorist attacks in the early 2000s.

Judge Moshe Sobel, who accepted the "Shurat HaDin" petition, also imposed legal expenses at the rate of 10% of the compensation received by each family individually.

This is the most precedent-setting amount of compensation the court has ruled in a single lawsuit against the Palestinian Authority.

This is a continuation of an earlier ruling in which it was determined that the authority is responsible for the attacks because its people carried them out due to financial assistance and the provision of weapons, ideological and financial support to the families of the terrorists.

Among the famous victims involved in the lawsuit are the reservists who were killed in the lynching incident in Ramallah in 2000 and in a pedestrian attack in Jerusalem in 2001.

Some of the compensation was hung directly on the terrorist Marwan Barghouti, who is serving a prison sentence in Israel.

In July 2019, the Jerusalem District Court ruled in a precedent-setting decision that the Palestinian Authority was responsible for the attacks of the second intifada.

This is a decision regarding cases submitted nearly 20 years ago that dealt with terrorist victims from the days of the second intifada.

In a ruling given by the then vice president of the court, Justice Moshe Drori, it was determined that the PA is responsible for 17 terrorist attacks in those years, which were carried out not only directly by its employees and activists but also by the terrorist organizations PLO, Hamas and jihad The Islamic.

Among the cases discussed at the time were the massacre in the Gavish family in which two parents, a grandfather and a grandson, were murdered in their home in Elon Moreh, on Passover 2002;

Murder of the Dickstein couple and their young son in a shooting ambush in the southern Hebron Mountains;

The suicide bombing at Megiddo Junction in which 17 people were killed, as well as many other attacks.

In addition, the claim of Naaman Sharakia, who was suspected by the PA as collaborating with Israel and therefore abducted and tortured by the PA, was mentioned, as well as the claim of about 60 mentors whose livelihoods were severely damaged during 2004-2000 for the second intifada.

Over the years, precedent-setting rulings have been made in connection with these cases, including that the PA is not a state and has no sovereign immunity, and therefore it can be sued in Israel. The Norwich family.

The president of Shurat HaDin, Adv. Nitzana Darshan-Leitner, said: "We thank the court that sought to do justice to the victims and ruled in their favor.

Nevertheless, justice must also be seen - it is still a matter of awarding compensation significantly lower than the rulings of the American court.

We know that the court was bound by the Supreme Court ruling that set the compensation threshold, and therefore the families of the victims of terrorism intend to appeal the ruling. And to bring the PA to pay for its actions, and at a very expensive price. "
