Kaufering – The Red Hocks took the next step towards staying up in the league on Saturday – and a huge one at that: the Kauferingers defeated second division runners-up TV Lilienthal 13:2 in the first game of the relegation.

Means: If the Red Hocks win one of two away games in Lilienthal (near Bremen) at the weekend, remaining in the 1st Bundesliga would finally be a done deal.

With a win in the play-downs against DHfK Leipzig, the Kauferingers had secured their ticket for the relegation against TV Lilienthal the previous weekend.

The Lilienthaler Wolves, meanwhile, gambled away direct promotion against Dresden in the second division final and now have a second chance against Kaufering in the relegation.

The relegation (like the play-downs) will be decided in a “best of three” series.

For the Kaufering Bundesliga boys, the goal was therefore clear: the first game in front of a home crowd had to be won in order to take the lead in the series and thus secure two “match points”.

The Red Hocks, who started the game slightly favored as the first division team, got off to a dream start: After just three seconds (a record in Kaufering's Bundesliga history), Ricardo Wipfler put the Reds ahead: Wipfler put the ball forward from the face-off and shot directly with his backhand – and the ball slipped through Wölfe goalkeeper Milan Uromovic to make it 1-0.

It was to continue in a similar way: Already in the seventh minute the scoreboard was 4-0 thanks to further goals from Tizian Heinzelmann, Daniel Wipfler and Jan Küchli.

After the first ten minutes, in which the Red Hocks clearly dominated and hardly allowed Lilienthaler to have any serious chances to score, they lost their determination a little.

So the wolves came to several dangerous conclusions.

But in the first third they were not able to overcome the good mood Dominik Bürger in the Kauferinger Tor.

The Red Hocks, in the person of Jan Küchli, scored another goal to make it 5-0.

For the second half of the game, the Kaufering coaches called for more focus and thought to play forward.

This and a stable protection should prevent opposing counterattacks.

That worked well for the most part: After consistent pressing and winning the ball in front of the opposing goal, Christian Brücklmayr only had to push the ball over the line after a template from Martin Rieß (22').

The following two goals were also scored by Kauferinger: Daniel Wipfler and Lukas Wexenberger, both played well, got the fans of the Red Hocks cheering and an interim score of 8:0 on the scoreboard.

Then Lilienthal could also celebrate a goal – Leon Bauer scored from a distance.

However, the answer from Kauferinger was not long in coming.

In the final third, Jonas Fellner continued the good offensive performance of the Reds with goals in the 45th and 49th minute of the game.

In the second half of the last third, the game suffered a slight break after a two-minute penalty against the Red Hocks.

After a minute of being outnumbered without conceding a goal, Lilienthaler had to go to the penalty box and shortly after both sides were complete again, captain Marco Tobisch made it 12:1.

Ricardo Wipfler scored the final point in Kaufering with a strong individual performance, but Lilienthal also scored another goal in the last few seconds – to make it 13:2.

"At times we played our offensive game well, but there were too many minutes in which we played too impatiently and gave up possession of the ball carelessly," commented Marco Tobisch critically after the game.

"Nevertheless: It was a great finish for our fans today and the 13 goals are definitely something to be proud of."

With a win on Saturday evening (kick-off 6 p.m.), the Red Hocks could already make the league perfect.

Should Lilienthal succeed in making a comeback and the Wolves win their Saturday home game, a decider would follow on Sunday (2 p.m.) – the winner would have the Bundesliga ticket for next season in their pockets.
