Mittenwald - Yesterday at around 5:00 p.m., a 59-year-old pilot from Vienna and his 26-year-old son escaped with a fright when their two-seater microlight crashed in the wooded area at Ferchensee in Mittenwald.
According to the initial investigation, the single-engine machine went into a spin at an altitude of 8,000 feet for reasons that are not yet clear, whereupon the pilot was forced to deploy the parachute rescue system and make an emergency landing in the trees.
Miraculously, the pilot and co-pilot were uninjured.
In the morning of the same day, father and son bought the machine for EUR 18,500 in Switzerland, Canton Aargau, and carried out several introductory flights (takeoffs/landings) there without any problems.
The pilot has many years of flight experience.
The fire brigade and mountain rescue service in Mittenwald, the Red Cross and numerous police patrol vehicles were at the crash site.
The Mittenwald Police Inspectorate has started the investigation and is in contact with the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) in Braunschweig.
The machine can only be salvaged after an assessment and will take some time.
