"As soon as a machine comes, our engines have to run": Fire brigade starts G7 operation at the landing site

Because of the G7, the fire brigade in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district is also entering the hot phase: the units are starting their operations at the heliport near Schloss Elmau.
Elmau – The many people in uniform along the toll road in the direction of Elmauer Tal leave no doubt: The G7 summit 2022 in Elmau (26th to 28th June), costing more than 160 million euros, is about to be repeated.
The inner ring - security area one - has been closed since Sunday.
Only those who are allowed in come in.
In other words: Without accreditation at the center of the same name in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, nothing works anymore.
"The procedure serves to grant people with a legitimate interest access to the security area," said a spokesman for the G7 planning staff of the Bavarian state police.
It is primarily aimed at residents, employees of the two G7 hotels Kranzbach and Elmau as well as farmers and foresters.

All of the Isartal fire brigade units have now endured the procedure in the accreditation center.
Previously, everyone had had to submit a negative corona PCR test.
Because even in G7 times, the pandemic still plays a role.
On Wednesday (June 22nd) the firefighters will start their service on the spot, in the holy of holies, so to speak.

As Wallgau Mayor Bastian Eiter, himself a passionate firefighter, explains, the units from Mittenwald, Partenkirchen and Wallgau are taking care of the helipad near the disused Alpengut Elmau.
That means: usually killing a lot of time and doing little.
But the Mittenwald commander disagrees: "As soon as a machine comes, our engines have to run," reports Karl Seitz.
Then readiness is signalled.

If, for example, US President Joe Biden, like his predecessor Barack Obama in 2015, touched down with the Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey on the ugly tongue of asphalt in the landscape protection area, it could get terribly hot.
According to Eiter, the swiveling propellers, which turn the armored helicopter into an airplane in no time at all, cause enormous temperatures.
"The surrounding area has to be watered."

The flying fortresses may not be compatible with the idea of sustainability and climate protection postulated at the G7 summit in 2022, but these machines definitely make an impression on the average consumer.
