It was the star of the Cannes Film Festival this year: the "milky nails" manicure was unanimous on the red carpet, dressing the nails of Bella Hadid, Kristen Stewart, Elle Fanning and Emily Ratajkowski.
However, this style is not one to stand out.
Far from being a flashy nail art, it is meant to be as simple and minimalist as possible.
Monochrome, this shade of white varnish takes its name from its semi-opaque appearance which gives a “milky” effect (“milky” means “milky” in English.)
This immaculate look is also popular for announcing good news.
The heiress Nicola Peltz wore it for her marriage to Brooklyn Beckham, while the American gymnast Simone Biles announced her engagement by revealing her ring, on a hand thus varnished in white.
Even Jennifer Lopez wore it to promote her evocatively titled latest movie,
Marry Me
.

An accessible trend
On TikTok, the hashtag #milkynails has already accumulated 12 million views, where videos of freshly made milky manicures are attracting covetousness.
The height of chic, Dior had predicted it among the beauty trends of 2022 during the last Paris Fashion Weeks (summer and winter), where the models paraded with their hands varnished in this same shade of smoked white.
In the salon, professionals use special cosmetic powders to create this blurred effect on gel or acrylic nails preferably.
For those who prefer natural, it is possible to easily reproduce it yourself with a classic semi-opaque white varnish.
Not lacking in advantages, this accessible manicure is suitable for all skin tones and all ages, whether you have short or long nails.
Only condition: that they are perfectly clean, taking into account the transparency of the color.
