With a view to obtaining a majority, the President of the Republic urged the other political parties on Wednesday evening to “build compromises, enrichments, amendments (...). in a desire for unity and action for the nation".

This is called being waited around.

Three days after the second round of the legislative elections which did not give Emmanuel Macron an absolute majority in the National Assembly, the President of the Republic solemnly spoke again on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

After a series of consultations with the heads of the political parties who will be able to form a group at the Palais Bourbon, the Head of State is

“decided to take into account the desire for change that the country has clearly requested”.

And this, because

“no political force can today make the laws alone”.

Calling on the opposition to

"compromises, enrichments, amendments (...)., in a desire for unity and action for the nation",

Emmanuel Macron issued an ultimatum by his return from the European Council, which will be held in Brussels until Friday evening.

He therefore asks politicians and parliamentarians

"to say in complete transparency how far they are ready to go" in

order to

"build this method and this new configuration".

But the initiative has so far not met with much enthusiasm.

Starting with the leader of Nupes Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who spoke a few minutes after the end of the address of the President of the Republic.

The leader of the Insoumis castigated a

“weak executive”

to better promote a

“National Assembly strong with all the legitimacy of its recent election”.

Way also to bring Elisabeth Borne to comply with a vote of confidence of the deputies.

And to refuse the outstretched hand of the tenant of the Élysée:

“It is useless to dissolve the reality of the vote by filling it with considerations and appeals of all kinds”.

With their 131 elected representatives, the various representatives of the left-wing coalition made fun of them.

For the boss of the PS, Olivier Faure,

"political formations do not have to answer to him

(Emmanuel Macron, editor's note)

how far they are ready to go to give him a blank check."

As for the former PCF presidential candidate Fabien Roussel, he is a little more measured than his socialist partner.

“After discovering public services in 2020, Macron discovers the virtues of parliamentary debate and the true role of the National Assembly in 2022”,

retorts the deputy from the North, who “

will judge by action”.

No alternative to dialogue and respect

But Emmanuel Macron's message was particularly directed towards the 61 LR deputies, who can bring him enough to constitute a majority.

If the right has hammered in recent days that it would remain an opposition force and that it would not enter into a logic of coalitions with the president, the new leader of the LR deputies Olivier Marleix indicates on Twitter that

"he there is no alternative to the dialogue and respect mentioned by the president”

.

Although there

"cannot be a blank check moreover on an unclear project".

Regarding the nationalist right, among which some macronists wanted in recent days to get the votes, it is an end of inadmissibility.

"This is the first time that Emmanuel Macron's arrogance has slowed down a bit: this change comes from the people, who made him a minority president.

Our powerful group in the Assembly will be firm but constructive, with the sole compass of the interest of France and the French”,

taunts the boss of RN Jordan Bardella.

Finally, in the ranks of macronie, we procrastinate.

Guest of LCI Wednesday evening, the president of the Modem François Bayrou is even pessimistic:

"The idea that it is enough to recreate a majority which was not given by the voters is an idea which I do not believe possible".

For her part, government spokeswoman Olivia Grégoire applauded on Twitter a head of state who

“clearly showed the French that he took note of the high abstention and the results of the legislative elections.”
