Every new baby in the administrative community is greeted with a tree: that was the decision made by the Pastetten municipal council in January following a motion by the WRH parliamentary group.

It is "an appreciation of the parents and also good for nature," WRH Councilor Susanne Gerster justified her suggestion.

The trees are planted on a meadow orchard.

Pastettes - In order not to reduce the local treasury, the administration only takes care of the organization, the trees are donated by the gardening association Buch-Reithofen.

The association grows fruit trees of regional varieties in various forms.

Since not all parents have their own garden or want a small tree for the balcony, the community went in search of a suitable piece of land.

This has now been found: In the south of Pastetten in the Bergstraße area, a strip of around 140 square meters can be made available for a meadow orchard on a community-owned field.

Georg Stockl and Brigitte Gambs-Zerling from the top management of the horticultural association also attended an on-site appointment with Mayor Peter Deischl and local councilor Susanne Gerster, who examined the property.

The first practical things to do with the layout of the strip were clarified with the local manager.

The first saplings could come into the ground at planting time in autumn.

The parents can express wishes for varieties, but the focus should be on fruit.

"It's also nice for a child if they can later eat fruit from their own tree," says Stockl.

But the meadow should also provide food and habitat for other creatures such as bees and birds.

So far, six parents have ordered a baby tree from the gardening association, whether one or more of them will come to the community area remains to be seen.

Around 25 to 30 children are born in the parish of Pastetten every year, but it remains to be seen whether the parents want a tree and not plant it in their own garden.

There is also the possibility for everyone to put a sign with the name of the child in front of the tree on the communal lawn.
