With hearts full of faith and with the psychological support of the family and the doctors, the two sisters, Maha and Hamama Muslim from Lattakia governorate, faced breast cancer that afflicted them and followed with all strength and courage the journey of their treatment of this disease. The nurse Maha Muslim, 47, a married mother of two, told SANA reporter that she had breast cancer in 2021 and recovered from it after 6 months.

Maha says: “I have been regularly following up on breast examinations at the Baluran clinic, and 3 years ago, I discovered benign lumps on both sides of the right and left breasts. They were successfully removed and reappeared after a year. They were also removed, but last year it was discovered that a cancerous lump began to appear on the right side. Here, the journey of treatment with mastectomy began, and I received 6 preventive chemical doses at Tishreen Hospital, in addition to a set of medications for 5 years, in addition to conducting examinations, analyzes, and echocardiograms every 3 months for the abdomen and breast.

Duraid Muhammad Muslim, the husband of patient Maha, says: “It was hard moments for the family when they heard the news of my wife’s breast cancer, but the feeling soon changed to a challenge for the disease. She received the first dose, but the boys and I stood with her to overcome the ordeal in peace, and this is what really happened. She was strong in the face of the disease, the pain of treatment and the symptoms accompanying it, without even thinking about putting on a wig. It is fate and we must accept it with satisfaction, delivery and treatment.

As for the other sister, Hamama Muslim, 42 years old, married and mother of three children, says: “After my sister was injured for a month, I noticed a lump in the right breast. I received 8 chemical doses and was cured. I drew my strength from my sister, Maha, in her courage in resisting the disease. She was strong, faithful, patient, and my support in my ordeal. Thank God, we both recovered together.”

The two sisters advised the women to initiate early detection of cancer in all its forms, taking advantage of the current campaign that is being held in Lattakia Governorate because of the benefits that provide the pain of injury, including psychological pain, on the patient, his family and his surroundings, especially under the current circumstances.
