Police cars burn in front of the G7 summit.

Not the only attacks related to the meeting at Elmau Castle?

Interior Minister Herrmann warns of "real dangers".

Garmisch-Partenkirchen/Munich - A few days before the G7 summit in Elmau, several police cars were on fire in Munich.

A total of eight emergency vehicles burned.

The police suspect arson.

"The incident did not surprise us," said police chief Manfred Hauser on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann cannot rule out further attacks.

Security is not endangered and "extreme escalations" such as at the G20 summit in Hamburg "are not to be feared," said the CSU politician.

However, further similar attacks cannot generally be ruled out in the coming days, which is why the large-scale police operation during the summit days is absolutely necessary.

Herrmann said: "In our security concept, we have adjusted to the fact that such attacks can occur.

That's why so many thousands of civil servants from Bavaria, from the federal government, from the other federal states are deployed here.

Unfortunately, these are not all pipe dreams, but real dangers.” The incident reminded everyone to be particularly vigilant in the coming days, but there was no need to change the general security concept.

The participants of the summit are safe.

The G7 agenda and timetable could proceed as planned.

Herrmann announced that the police would do everything possible to prevent further attacks, he called on possible witnesses to contact the police.

In any case, everything will be done to bring the perpetrators to justice.

“We currently have no concrete information about the perpetrators.

Of course, when it comes to the procedure, everything indicates that the perpetrators are to be found in the left-wing extremist spectrum.” Hauser also spoke of “extremists prepared to use violence”.

The emergency services will probably also be put to the test on Saturday (June 25).

One day before the start of the G7 summit (June 26-28), a large-scale demonstration will take place in Munich.

The demo in downtown Munich is part of numerous protests surrounding the summit.

For example, Fridays for Future are planning a protest called “Stop G7 Elmau”.

The organizers spoke in advance of a "peaceful, colourful, beautiful demonstration".

Activists are also planning a protest camp.

Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter emphasized on Wednesday that there should be no further escalations.

With a "high police presence" they want to prevent this in the state capital.

He had “no sympathy at all” for the arson attack on the police cars.
