The team buses of the federal riot police were all in front of a hotel that housed emergency services for the G7 summit, as the Munich police confirmed.
The police and fire brigade moved out around 3 a.m. and searched for possible perpetrators with a helicopter, among other things, but were initially unsuccessful.
Investigators examined the completely burned-out police van.
The officials estimated the damage in the six-digit range.
Nobody got hurt.
The G7 summit is scheduled for June 26-28 at Schloss Elmau near Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
The heads of state and government of the USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Japan and Canada will meet under the leadership of Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD).
The first participants of the summit are expected on Sunday.
There are several issues on the G7 agenda, such as how to deal with climate change or the war in Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky will also take part in the summit – but only digitally.
