Josef Maier was BBV local chairman in Hohenpolding for 35 years.

A successor for him has not yet been found.

The choice of Bartholomäus Bachmaier at the head of BBV Sulding was not a problem.

Hohenpolding

– The search for a successor for Josef Maier as local chairman of the Hohenpolding farmers was unsuccessful.

Together with the Sulding local branch of the Bavarian Farmers' Association, the members of the Hohenpolding association met in the Gasthaus zur Linde for the annual general meeting, and elections were held every five years.

For 35 years, Josef Maier had represented the interests of the local farmers, also at district level.

As announced, he no longer stood for election.

"I've been on the phone a lot and driving around but no one seems to be sticking out.

It's sad, we have a professional association, but we don't stand behind it.

Public relations work has to start with us, at the local association level," said Maier in view of his efforts to find a successor.

Eleven eligible voters had gathered, despite renewed inquiries and requests, Vice District Chairman and Election Officer Michael Hamburger ended the election without a result.

Before that, the local chairman of Sulding, Bartholomäus Bachmaier, who had been confirmed in office in a previous vote, took the floor, stressed the low level of obligatory effort involved in the task and offered close cooperation between the two local associations.

A merger of Sulding and Hohenpolding was briefly discussed, but this was not permitted at the annual general meeting for formal reasons, as Hamburger pointed out.

Former mayor Heribert Niedermaier, who was present as a member of the OV Sulding, also addressed the farmers: “I think a successor to Josef Maier will shock most people here because he put his heart and soul into it.

I know that farming is becoming more and more time-consuming, but you don't have to go full throttle like Maier."

After another appeal by Mayor Alfons Beilhack, who cited the urgency of representing the interests of the "dying farming community", it was decided to continue looking for a local chairman among the 29 companies.

A later election could prevent the Hohenpolding farmers from not being represented in the BBV for five years.

The election result for Sulding stands: Bartholomäus Bachmaier is represented by Andreas Reiter, with Jakob Rott as assessor.

Maier said goodbye with a gift to Heribert Niedermaier, recalled Hohenpolding's support for the resistance against the B 15 and summed up his tenure as chairman: "It was a good time and I enjoyed doing it."
