This year marks both the forty years of the DGSE and the 80 years of its ancestor, the Central Intelligence and Action Bureau (BCRA), created in London on January 17, 1942 by General de Gaulle.
The BCRA is the model of the French secret service, combining intelligence and action and subordinated to politics, which continued with the creation of the Sdece in 1945 and the DGSE on April 2, 1982. Today, the DGSE continues to provide information, to anticipate and act outside the national territory, often clandestinely.
Celebrating this double anniversary means answering two essential questions: where do we come from?
And who are we today?
From the BCRA to the DGSE, generations of women and men accomplished yesterday and still accomplish extraordinary work, done by ordinary citizens.
Which implies commitments, renunciations and sacrifices…
