The CLP cable bridge suddenly caught fire last night (22nd), causing large-scale power outages in Yuen Long, Tuen Mun, and Tin Shui Wai. Chairman of the Legislative Council Security Panel, DAB Chan Hak-kin pointed out that he plans to follow up with the Legislative Council's relevant panels; the New Territories Northwest member Zhang Xinyu raised an urgent question.

Several Legislative Council members requested CLP to provide reasonable compensation to the affected households and businesses. The Federation of Trade Unions Lu Chung-hsiung pointed out that in addition to the discomfort and inconvenience caused by not being able to turn on the air conditioner, the food would also deteriorate, which would have a greater impact on the businesses and even affect medical services. Electricity offset their losses due to power outages as much as possible: "Can't be 'sorry'!"

Lu Songxiong pointed out that the incident was unacceptable, and believed that CLP had the responsibility to ensure the stability of power supply under the guarantee of profit.

Lau Kwok-hsun of the Democratic Alliance for Betterment of Hong Kong also asked CLP to provide electricity fee reductions for the affected residents. He also described the government's failure to use the emergency alert system as a useless force, and questioned whether the system had been activated because of the vacancy of the Chief Secretary for Administration: "It affected dozens of people. The population of 10,000 people, but this emergency warning system is actually silent and does not play its role, it is useless, what criteria should be used, how many people and what events will this system be effective?”

Chen Keqin criticized the officials for not showing up to explain the details and waiting until the power supply was restored, hoping that the next government can improve.

He also said that the incident shows that the infrastructure is fragile. Although the risk of terrorist attacks in Hong Kong is moderate, if someone attacks the infrastructure, it will have a great impact on people's livelihood. He urged the government to do a good job in risk assessment, and enterprises should also do a good job of security.
