London-Sana

Airlines in Britain have warned that problems with air travel will continue for several months, with an increase in the number of canceled flights and delays for travelers due to a shortage of labor.

And the British newspaper The Independent reported that the heads of companies blame the exacerbation of travel problems on Britain's exit from the European Union in the framework of the Brexit process, while the British government rejects this hypothesis.

The newspaper pointed out that EasyJet Airlines will reduce between 30 and 60 percent of its services due to the shortage of workers, while the company’s president, Joan Landgren, confirmed that the operating problems are due to the difficulty of hiring after the Brexit process, indicating in this context that the number of workers in the market has become much less with Britain’s suspension. About hiring a lot of EU nationals because of Brexit.

In addition, Michael O'Leary, President of Ryanair, warned of the continuation and exacerbation of aviation problems, indicating that the country's largest airports, Heathrow and Gatwick, would suffer the most, considering that this matter was linked to the side effects of the attempt to recover from the Corona pandemic and the repercussions of Brexit that led to unprecedented stagnation and hardening in the labor market in Britain.

And worsened problems at Britain's major airports last week, especially with regard to the handling of bags, which made travelers delays for long hours.

Heathrow Airport, Britain's largest airport, asked airlines operating from ports 2 and 3 to reduce their flights last Monday by 10 percent, so that the airport could handle the bags that were overcrowded as a result of a shortage of labor, and about 15,000 passengers on 90 flights were affected by the decision.

In parallel, the rest of European airports suffer from a shortage of staff and an increasing demand for flights two years after the spread of the Corona pandemic, as the revival of air travel after the recession caused by the pandemic leads to the cancellation of flights and long queues that take several hours.

And airlines that were affected by the decline in travel during the Corona pandemic depended on the recovery of travel in the summer, as prices rose to compensate for the increase in fuel costs, and some countries depended on tourism to revive the severely affected economies.
