China has allocated 200 million yuan (29.92 million US dollars) from central funds for natural disaster relief as several rainstorms hit the country's southern regions.
The emergency funds allocated by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Emergency Management will be used to help local governments in flood control and disaster relief in Fujian, Jiangxi and Hunan provinces as well as the southern province of Guangxi, Xinhua reported today.
The recent torrential rains that fell on the Pearl River Basin in southern China affected some parts of Guangdong and Guangxi, prompting the authorities to activate the second-level emergency response, and the eastern Jiangxi Province raised the level of emergency response to flood control to the second level over the past two days.
China has a four-level emergency response system for flood control, with the first level being the most severe.
After entering the flood season, China allocated 560 million yuan to help local governments in flood control and disaster relief.
