China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Dai Bing, has warned that hostility within the international community over the Ukraine crisis is hampering the work of the United Nations.
"The hostility continues to permeate the international community with the extension of the conflict in Ukraine and seriously disrupts the work of the United Nations in various fields and raises questions about the authority of and the effectiveness of the Security Council.
"Such a political climate is not conducive to an appropriate settlement of the Ukrainian crisis and may lead to the failure of global governance mechanisms, which will push the world into more division and turmoil, which is not in the interest of any party," Dai added.
The Chinese diplomat warned that hate speech between countries could poison the international political climate to the point of harming global peace and stability, stressing that the Security Council in particular should shoulder its responsibilities, manage differences, and be an effective force to facilitate peace talks, mediation and good offices.
Dai stressed that sending more lethal weapons to Ukraine will only fuel hostility, exacerbate conflicts, create a broader humanitarian crisis and take more innocent lives.
