41-year-old man sinks in Lake Murner – large search operation begins

Lake Murner, northeast of Schwandorf, is a popular bathing lake in the region.

With its 90 hectares, it is a sought-after starting point for many who are looking to cool off from the summer temperatures.

Yesterday, Tuesday, there were two accidents at the lake.

Couple was out with their stand-up paddle boards (SUP).

Both the 41-year-old husband and his wife fell into the water.

However, the casualty was pulled out of the water relatively quickly by a group on a pedal boat.

According to witness statements, the husband, on the other hand, went under at around 6:20 p.m. at the height of the observation tower.

The passers-by immediately called the integrated control center (ILS) and the police, fire brigade and rescue service were notified.

A large contingent of rescue workers made their way to the scene of the accident.

The water rescue service was also on site and searched the area with boats.

A group of divers also went in search of the missing person.

A rescue helicopter and a drone were also deployed.

All without success.

Search is canceled and continued the next day

At around 11.45 p.m. the search measures had to be stopped.

The rescue workers want to continue to search for the missing person.

The search will continue on Wednesday.

So far, however, without a success message (as of 10:40 a.m.).

Why the man fell into the water was initially unclear.

The police ruled out turbulence on the water due to bad weather.
