The survivors of Daunte Wright, who was shot dead by a police officer, can hope for financial compensation.

Wright's relatives have agreed to a settlement payment of $3.25 million (around €3.1 million) with the US city of Brooklyn Center in the US state of Minnesota.

However, the agreement is only valid if there is also an agreement on significant and significant services beyond the financial one, the lawyers for the Wright family said, according to the US media.

It is expected that the city will agree to provide additional training for its police forces.

Specifically, this means de-escalation training, dealing with subliminal prejudices or behavior in mental crises.

A permanent memorial to Wright should also be set up.

Wright, an African American, was shot and killed by white officer Kim Potter during a police operation north of Minneapolis in April 2021.

He was stopped for a traffic check because of abnormalities in his car.

It turned out that there was an arrest warrant against the 20-year-old for a weapons offense.

He tried to drive away and Potter opened fire.

In later court proceedings, she stated that she had mistakenly drawn her pistol instead of a taser.

Potter was sentenced in late 2021 to 16 months in prison and an additional eight months of supervised release for manslaughter.

The court followed the argument that it was a tragic mistake.

Wright's relatives had demanded a much harsher sentence.

Wright died just a few miles from the Minneapolis courtroom where the trial of the brutal death of black man George Floyd was taking place.

Floyd was also killed in a police operation because a police officer knelt on his neck for minutes and took his breath away.

Floyd's death sparked international outrage and protests.
