Less corona, this year the G7 summit is causing noise: Once again, the final exams at the secondary schools, which start on Wednesday, will not take place normally in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen – Encouraging words: Wolfgang Mühldorfer, Rector of the Archbishop's St. Irmengard Realschule in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, doesn't want to give his students anything more than these.

He is aware that this year's final exams cannot take place under normal conditions.

The G7 summit 2022 in Elmau, which takes place from June 26th to 28th, overshadows the exams.

A regular transport of the students from the Isar valley to the two secondary schools in the district, Zugspitze and St. Irmengard, is not possible on the two summit days next Monday and Tuesday.

This made it necessary to make some prior arrangements between schools, the school authority, the Ministry of Education, the district office, the planning staff of the police and the transport company.

"A logistical masterpiece really had to be achieved here," says Mühldorfer.

And it looks like this: "All the students write their exams by Friday, that applies to German today, French tomorrow and English on Friday, which is quite normal in our house, on Monday and Tuesday they then switch to schools close to where they live." That means: The people of the Isar valley go to Mittenwald for their tests in mathematics and BWR in the elementary and middle school, the people of Garmisch-Partenkirchner and Grainau stay in the market town.

The examinees from the Ammer Valley and from the northern district can take their exams in the elementary and middle school in Oberau or the secondary school in Murnau, "to avoid long journeys," explains Stephan Scharf, spokesman for the district office.

In addition, the transport companies have adjusted their timetables for the school buses.

The municipal utilities have set up a special timetable for their regular route.

This can be viewed online at www.gw-gap.de/ortsbus/fahrplanauskunft.

The Eibsee transport company will take Grainau students to their exams from the “Badersee” stop as usual next Monday from 7.25 a.m.

Distance teaching and demonstrations at G7 summit 2022: Bus traffic restricted

Due to the arranged distance teaching for all other grades, there are no reinforcement buses in the morning and at noon.

In addition, the stops Sebastianskirche, Rathaus, Bahnhof, Kurpark and Marienplatz cannot be approached.

Even at midday, when the exams are over, it is not possible to drive to the stations at the town hall and the train station - "because of the expected demonstration events," explains Scharf.

Instead, the Grainau students can use the cog railway of the Zugspitzbahn.

On June 24th, 26th and 28th, a special bus will take the candidates on the RVO line 9608 from Wallgau via Krün to Mittenwald from 7.40 a.m.

In Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the line begins at a temporary stop on Ludwigsstrasse (near Rathausplatz).

Line 9618 from the district town to Walchensee will cease operations from June 26th to 28th.

"Everything is organized in such a way that there shouldn't be any problems at all," emphasizes Scharf.

Mühldorfer does not assume that students will not be able to come to their exams at short notice because of the G7 summit.

In an emergency, Florian Diepold-Erl, climate protection manager in the district office, can be reached on 0 88 21/ 75 13 36 to organize short-term transport by taxi, for example.

"Monday and Tuesday will certainly be tricky days," says Mühldorfer, "but I'm confident that everything will go well."
