The governor of the Russian Kaliningrad region, Anton Alikhanov, considered that the restrictions imposed by Lithuania on the transit of goods to the region constitute a flagrant violation of the humanitarian aspects of international law.
In an interview with Russia's TASS news agency, Alikhanov explained that the Lithuanian measure is a "serious violation of its nature," adding: "The crossing to Kaliningrad is also a humanitarian issue, as it is home to more than a million people, which means that by restricting the crossing, they want to harm people in addition to deteriorating their quality of life."
The governor indicated that Kaliningrad will organize a sea lane to avoid the repercussions of the Lithuanian restrictions.
The Russian Foreign Ministry announced earlier today that practical response measures will be taken to restricting the transit of goods to the Russian region of Kaliningrad through Lithuania.
